Dan Deacon Returns to New Orleans Siberia After BalletX Collaboration

On Saturday, June 27, Baltimore‑based electronic artist Dan Deacon will light up New Orleans’ Siberia bar with a high‑octane set. Joining him is drummer Jeremy Hyman, and the performance builds on Deacon’s recent collaboration with contemporary dance company BalletX. Earlier in the month, Deacon debuted a fresh score for Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons at Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC) in Saratoga Springs, New York.

Deacon’s portfolio now stretches beyond five studio albums, the latest being Mystic Familiar (Domino, 2020), which delved into human connection through the lens of his meditation practice. Since 2021, he has scored for television and film, including HBO’s Task, the blockbuster Venom: The Last Dance, and A24’s documentary Andre is an Idiot. His next score, for the comedy Little Brother starring John Cena and Eric Andre, is set for release later this year. These credits have supplied Deacon with steady work and a break from the grueling touring schedule that once had him on the road for ten months.

The Four Seasons Reimagined project began six months ago and reached its climax with a 70‑minute live show at SPAC on June 11. Deacon crafted a new score that transposes Vivaldi’s classic into a contemporary electronic language. A nine‑member ensemble performed the piece, each musician switching between instruments from tuba to guitar. As part of BalletX’s 20th‑anniversary season, Deacon called the effort a “beast” and likened it to a doctoral thesis.

Following the SPAC concert, Deacon slipped back into Siberia’s cozy, club‑like atmosphere. The venue, at 2227 St. Claude Avenue in the Marigny, is famed for its eclectic roster of local acts and modest cover. Deacon has long frequented New Orleans, especially St. Claude during Mardi Gras. He described moving from a large performing‑arts center to a club as “awesome,” expressing excitement about bringing his high‑energy show to a more intimate setting.

The Saturday night lineup kicks off at 9 p.m. with Tashi Delay, after which Deacon takes the stage. Tickets run $37.39 and can be bought via dice.fm. Known for encouraging audience participation—he often names “team captains” and initiates dance‑offs—Deacon will be backed by Jeremy Hyman, and the pair is expected to deliver the kinetic energy that has become synonymous with his concerts.

Listed on the New Orleans events calendar, the show contributes to the city’s thriving live‑music scene. Fans of Deacon’s experimental electronic sound and those intrigued by contemporary dance takes on classical repertoire will find the Siberia performance a distinctive blend of music, movement, and community.
