Boundaries Drops May This Pain Never Leave Video Ahead of July 17 Album Release

Boundaries, the Hartford‑based metalcore outfit, released a new single, “May this pain never leave,” on June 19, 2026. The track is the first preview from the band’s forthcoming album Yearning: the unbeautiful after, scheduled for release on July 17 through Sumerian Records. The single was accompanied by a performance video directed by longtime photographer and videographer Sarah Holick.

The band’s current lineup consists of lead vocalist Matthew McDougal, rhythm guitarist Cory Emond, drummer and clean vocalist Tim Sullivan, bassist Nathan Calcagno, and lead guitarist Cody DelVecchio. Boundaries signed to Sumerian Records in 2023, a Nashville‑based label founded in 2006 that has released material for acts such as Bad Omens and Animals as Leaders. The new single follows the March 2024 release of “Skies Cast Amber Black,” which was produced by Drew Fulk.

Holick filmed the video at The Webster Underground, the secondary stage attached to Hartford’s Webster Theater. Fans who attended the shoot were invited to stay for an intimate performance after the filming session. The video showcases the band’s aggressive riffing and McDougal’s harsh vocals in a raw, live‑style setting.

McDougal explained the song’s thematic focus: “The premise of the song is laid out very plainly and intentionally,” he said. “It exists as an extension of the Colin Parkes quote: ‘The pain of grief is just as much a part of life as the joy of love; it is, perhaps, the price we pay for love, the cost of commitment.’” The track’s lyrics and arrangement reflect the emotional weight of that statement, blending heavy breakdowns with melodic passages to convey the duality of grief and love.

Yearning: the unbeautiful after was produced by Drew Fulk, known for work with Knocked Loose and Fit For A King. The album’s title and lyrical content suggest a continuation of the band’s exploration of personal struggle and resilience, themes that have become a hallmark of the modern metalcore scene. The release is expected to add to Sumerian’s catalog of genre‑blending acts that appeal to a broad audience of metal listeners.

The single’s launch ahead of the album’s July 17 release follows a common strategy in the industry, allowing the label to gauge listener response and build anticipation. Sumerian has previously used staggered releases for other artists, such as Bad Omens’ The Devil’s Walk in 2022, to maintain momentum in a crowded market.

As of now, the single is available on major streaming platforms, and the performance video has been shared on the band’s official YouTube channel. Fans and industry observers can expect the full album to drop on July 17, with additional promotional material likely to follow.

The band’s engagement with local venues like The Webster Underground and the inclusion of a live performance element in the video underscore their commitment to connecting with the Hartford community. The release also highlights Sumerian’s continued investment in metalcore acts that blend aggressive musicianship with emotionally resonant storytelling.

Overall, Boundaries’ “May this pain never leave” serves as a prelude to Yearning: the unbeautiful after, positioning the band for a July 17 launch that will add a new entry to the contemporary metalcore catalog.
