What is Library Music?
Library music is a collection of pre-recorded music tracks that are created specifically to be licensed for use in media projects such as films, television shows, commercials, video games, and online videos. The music is stored in organized catalogs so producers and editors can easily search for tracks that fit their project.
Library music is usually composed in a wide variety of styles, moods, and genres to match different types of visual content. For example, a library may include cinematic orchestral music, upbeat corporate tracks, ambient backgrounds, dramatic suspense music, and many other categories.
Unlike custom compositions written for a specific film or project, library music is produced in advance and made available for licensing. This allows filmmakers, content creators, and advertisers to quickly find music that fits their needs without hiring a composer to create a new score.
Library music is widely distributed through music licensing platforms and production music libraries such as Epidemic Sound and Artlist. Composers typically create these tracks using digital audio workstations such as Ableton Live, FL Studio, and Logic Pro before submitting them to music libraries for licensing.
