What is Electro?

Electro is a style of electronic music known for its robotic rhythms, synthesizer melodies, and drum machine patterns. The genre emerged in the early 1980s and blends elements of electronic music, hip hop, and funk.

Electro tracks often feature distinctive drum machine sounds, especially those from the Roland TR-808. The rhythms commonly include syncopated beats, electronic percussion, and futuristic synth basslines that give the music a mechanical and robotic feel.

Vocals in electro music are often processed with electronic effects such as vocoders or robotic filters. Many tracks also include melodic synthesizer leads, arpeggios, and rhythmic bass patterns that define the genre’s signature sound.

Electro played an important role in the development of modern electronic dance music and influenced styles such as electro house and breakbeat. Producers commonly create electro music using digital audio workstations such as Ableton Live, FL Studio, and Logic Pro along with synthesizers and drum machines.
