What is a Yunluo?

A Yunluo is a traditional Chinese percussion instrument made up of a set of small, tuned gongs arranged in a frame. It is part of the gong family and is used to produce melodic as well as rhythmic patterns.

The Yunluo typically consists of ten or more flat gongs, each suspended individually within a wooden frame. Every gong is tuned to a specific pitch, allowing the instrument to function similarly to a keyboard-style percussion instrument.
