BELLES Son of Jolene Collaboration With Dolly Parton Drives Radio and Streaming Numbers

When Dolly Parton’s legendary voice finally joined forces with rising country star Kelli Belles, the industry took notice. The duet, “Son of Jolene,” burst onto the airwaves and streaming charts, debuting at No. 51 on Billboard’s Hot Shots and climbing to No. 60 on Mediabase. It also became Parton’s last new recording released while she was alive, before her passing on August 25 2026.

The track was co‑written by Belles, Dan Harrison, and Tyler Bank, with Parton receiving a songwriting credit. It continues the story of the 1973 hit “Jolene,” now told from the perspective of the titular character’s son. In a PEOPLE interview, Parton praised the concept, saying, “When I heard ‘Son of Jolene,’ I thought it was very clever. No one had ever thought of it that way.” Belles, who has been touring the country on her 45‑city “Song & Stories Tour,” expressed gratitude for the collaboration. She added, “Dolly gave me one of the greatest gifts of my life when she believed in ‘Son of Jolene’ and lent her voice to it. Hearing our voices together on country radio and to have Dolly’s last song on country radio is something I’ll never be able to fully put into words.”

The partnership has translated into impressive streaming growth. Apple Music streams for the single surged 1,794 % week over week, while Belles’ overall Apple Music activity rose 780 %. On Spotify, the track added 500,000 new monthly listeners in a single week, underscoring its crossover appeal across traditional radio and digital platforms.

“Son of Jolene” also marks Parton’s return to country radio since her 2006 duet with Brad Paisley, “When I Get Where I’m Going.” The single’s chart performance highlights Parton’s enduring influence on contemporary country music, even after her passing.

Belles is set to release her debut studio album, Midwestern, on October 16 through East Music Row Records. The Nashville‑based label, known for launching emerging country talent, will benefit from the momentum generated by the single and the ongoing tour.

The collaboration exemplifies how legacy artists continue to shape modern country soundscapes. By pairing Parton’s iconic vocal legacy with Belles’ fresh perspective, the track bridges generational gaps and demonstrates the genre’s capacity for narrative continuity.

Industry observers note that the song’s success on both radio and streaming services reflects a broader trend of legacy artists partnering with rising stars to reach diverse audiences. The partnership also illustrates how strategic collaborations can revive classic narratives while generating commercial traction.

As Belles prepares to drop Midwestern, the industry will watch how the album performs relative to the single’s strong debut. The track’s performance on Billboard and Mediabase, combined with its streaming surge, sets a benchmark for future collaborations between established and emerging country artists.
