Perth Producer Ethan French Expands Idea A Day Series Into Full-Length Album and LA Collaboration Plans

In a year that could have been a footnote, Perth’s Ethan French turned a TikTok experiment into a full‑length album and a trip to Los Angeles. French, a producer and multi‑instrumentalist, launched An Idea A Day in late 2025 as a daily musical sketch series. The project has since amassed more than 900 000 followers across TikTok, Instagram and other platforms.

The bite‑size sketches caught the eye of high‑profile artists. According to a Rolling Stone AU/NZ interview, French has received co‑signs and direct messages from Justin Timberlake, John Mayer, Jacob Collier, Anderson .Paak, Erykah Badu and Robert Glasper. The project’s reach also attracted remixers T‑Pain and Kerri Chandler, who re‑imagined the original Reckless and Arranged – Day 56.

French’s latest release, Reckless and Arranged – Day 56 (Extended), dropped in early July 2026. The eight‑song collection builds on the original sketch, which already racked up millions of streams and inspired the remixes mentioned above. The single precedes the full Ideas of the Day – Vol. 1 album.

Scheduled for 2 October 2026, Ideas of the Day – Vol. 1 compiles 25 tracks drawn from French’s most productive ten months. The album features both extended versions and the original sketches, and French described it in the Rolling Stone interview as the most prolific period of his career to date.

In October, French will head to Los Angeles to pursue new collaborations. He framed the move as an opportunity to work with the artists who have supported him and to expand the collaborative side of his work. The interview notes that he plans to engage in projects beyond his own releases during that period.

French’s musical journey began early. He recalled receiving a Casio keyboard from his parents at age four, which sparked his interest in music production. Growing up listening to his parents’ guitar playing, he later explored a wide range of influences—Bon Iver, Jacob Collier, Coldplay, The Beatles, Ben Folds, Billy Joel, John Mayer, The Fray and Stevie Wonder. He cited Bon Iver’s 22, a million as a turning point in his understanding of production and texture.

The An Idea A Day series itself is a daily exercise in rapid composition. French began posting short musical sketches in late 2025, and the format has proven highly shareable on social media. The project’s success is reflected in the rapid growth of his follower base and the attention from established musicians.

The extended single and upcoming album demonstrate French’s transition from short‑form social‑media content to longer‑form releases. The move aligns with a broader industry trend where creators leverage viral social‑media presence to launch full‑length projects.

French’s career highlights include the co‑signs from major artists, the remix work by T‑Pain and Kerri Chandler, and the release of a 25‑track album that consolidates his daily ideas. The upcoming Los Angeles trip is expected to open further collaborative opportunities.

The Rolling Stone AU/NZ piece, part of the Up‑And‑Coming Australian Artists series, offers a comprehensive look at French’s early life, influences and current trajectory. It underscores the significance of social‑media‑driven music creation in the contemporary industry.

As of now, French’s Ideas of the Day – Vol. 1 will be available on all major streaming platforms on 2 October 2026, and his Los Angeles collaboration plans are underway. The project marks a key milestone in his career and illustrates how daily creative output can evolve into a full‑length release and industry‑wide recognition.
