Texas Songwriter U Opens 2027 Program Submissions, Announces Mentors and Dates

Texas Songwriter U (TxSU) has opened its application window for the 2027 discovery and development program, inviting emerging Texas songwriters to compete for a spot in a three‑day intensive workshop. The event will take place from January 31 to February 3, 2027, at a private ranch just outside Austin.

Only eight finalists will be selected, and they will benefit from a packed schedule that blends performance, critique, and networking. Participants will showcase their songs to a live audience, attend focused songwriting clinics, and receive one‑on‑one guidance from industry mentors. The program also creates direct contact with publishers, managers, and record‑label representatives, giving writers a chance to pitch their material to key decision‑makers.

Eligibility is clear: applicants must be 18 or older and either be born in Texas, currently reside there, or have lived in the state for five consecutive years. Songs may be self‑published or co‑written, and applicants may already hold a publishing agreement. Previous TxSU winners are ineligible to apply.

Submissions are collected through the official TxSU web portal, where songwriters can register and upload their tracks. The application deadline is November 1, 2026. After the cutoff, a panel of industry professionals will review all entries and announce the eight finalists.

The 2027 cohort will be guided by three high‑profile mentors. Nashville‑based songwriter Liz Rose, known for her collaborations with Taylor Swift and other country and pop artists, will focus on songwriting structure and marketability. Folk‑country legend Lori McKenna, a multiple‑Grammy‑winning lyricist, will steer the program’s storytelling and lyric‑development sessions. Veteran country performer Jack Ingram will offer insights into performance, touring, and navigating the business side of a recording career.

TxSU has long been a pillar of the Texas music community. Since its inception, the program has launched the careers of several successful songwriters who have secured record deals and publishing contracts. By combining creative workshops with business education, TxSU bridges local talent with national industry opportunities.

The 2027 program’s schedule, location, and mentor lineup are all confirmed. Songwriters who are interested are urged to submit early to secure a place among the elite eight.

In short, Texas Songwriter U is now accepting entries for its 2027 discovery and development program. The workshop runs from January 31 to February 3 at a private ranch outside Austin. Eligible applicants must be 18 or older, have a Texas connection, and can submit self‑published or co‑written songs. Mentors Liz Rose, Lori McKenna, and Jack Ingram will lead the program, which offers showcases, feedback, co‑writing sessions, and direct access to industry leaders. Applications close on November 1, 2026.
