MMF and YouTube Launch Hyperdrive: A Four-Month Training Program for UK Music Managers

The Music Managers Forum (MMF) and YouTube have announced a new four‑month training program called Hyperdrive, scheduled to begin in September 2026. The initiative is a rebrand of the long‑running MMF Accelerator and will include a travel bursary that allows managers to attend industry conferences, as well as a three‑day retreat at the program’s conclusion. Hyperdrive targets UK managers whose artist clients generate at least £50,000 in gross annual income—a threshold that has doubled from the previous £25,000 requirement.

The partnership between MMF and YouTube has been in place for seven years, with the Accelerator helping managers develop skills in digital promotion, rights management and brand building. According to the MMF, the new program builds on that foundation while expanding its scope to cover emerging commercial models and tools. The re‑branding to Hyperdrive signals a shift toward a more intensive, immersive learning experience.

The program’s structure is designed to balance classroom‑style instruction with real‑world application. Over the four‑month period, participants will attend a series of workshops that cover capacity building, creative development, and the latest revenue‑generation strategies. The travel bursary will fund attendance at key conferences such as the Music Managers Forum Global Conference and the UK Music Conference, giving managers exposure to industry leaders and networking opportunities. Paul Bonham, MMF’s Director of Professional Development, said the program “will create long‑term value throughout the music sector by bringing managers together, encouraging discussion and knowledge‑sharing, and boosting their professional development through initiatives like the MMF’s Certification Programme.” Maddy Smith, YouTube’s Head of Artist Partnerships, added that the new program “empowers the management community as the responsibilities of artist managers are constantly evolving and expanding.”

Hyperdrive’s emphasis on new commercial models aligns with broader industry trends that see managers taking on roles traditionally handled by labels and publishers. As streaming platforms continue to dominate revenue streams, managers are increasingly involved in negotiating sync deals, brand partnerships and fan‑funded projects. The program’s curriculum reflects this shift, offering modules on data analytics, audience segmentation and monetisation strategies that go beyond traditional touring and merchandising.
