Elkhorn Community Theatre to Stage Legally Blonde The Musical with Local Cast and a Dog

Elkhorn Community Theatre will open its season with the award‑winning musical Legally Blonde on Friday, June 19. The production runs through June 21 and again from June 26 to 28. Tickets and additional details are available on the theatre’s website, elkhorncommunitytheatre.org.

The show follows Elle Woods, a sorority girl who enrolls at Harvard Law School to win back her boyfriend. She discovers her legal knowledge can help others and ultimately defends exercise queen Brooke Wyndham in a murder trial. The musical, written by Laurence O’Keefe and Nell Benjamin with a book by Heather Hach, first premiered in 2007 and has received several Tony and Olivier nominations.

Local actors are taking the lead roles. Allie Blake plays Elle Woods and expressed excitement about the character’s journey. Noelani Howland portrays Brooke Wyndham, the defendant in the trial. Lenny, a dog that appears in the production, is brought to rehearsals by Emma, the owner. The dog’s presence is highlighted in interviews, with the cast noting that Lenny will be on stage during the show.

Rehearsals have been intensive. According to the cast, the group meets every weeknight from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The schedule includes music, choreography, and costume changes. Lenny is noted for wearing a small dress during the first act, while the actors discuss the number of costume changes—Blake reports nine changes in the first act alone.

The musical’s choreography features energetic numbers such as “Bend and Snap” and the opening “First Song,” which the cast describes as fun and demanding. The production also includes a scene where Brooke Wyndham performs a rope‑jumping routine in prison orange.

Elkhorn Community Theatre, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 1998, has long supported local arts. The theatre’s website lists the show’s schedule and ticketing options. The community has expressed enthusiasm for the production, noting the blend of familiar musical numbers with the unique addition of a canine performer.

Ticket sales for the two run dates are open to the public. The theatre encourages residents of Elkhorn and surrounding areas to purchase tickets through its online platform or at the box office.

The presentation of Legally Blonde in Elkhorn reflects the broader trend of regional theatres staging Broadway‑level productions. By combining a well‑known musical with local talent and community involvement, the theatre aims to provide an engaging experience for audiences while supporting local performers.

The show’s run concludes on June 28, after which the theatre will return to its regular season lineup. For those interested in attending, tickets can be secured via the theatre’s website or by contacting the box office directly.
