Cochrane Drum Tutors Third Annual All Together Now Event Draws 42 Students and Local Artists on June 20
On Saturday, June 20, the Cochrane Lions Legacy Centre will host its third annual drum recital, this year branded “All Together Now.” The full‑day showcase will run from noon to 7 p.m. and is set to pull in 42 student performers alongside a roster of local musicians, all in celebration of Cochrane’s growing music community.
The event began as a modest student drum performance in 2024 and has expanded each year. The inaugural show featured the Beatles‑inspired John, Paul, George and 30 Ringos, while last year’s Treble Trouble paired the drum recital with a youth music talent showcase judged by local experts. This year, drum instructor Edward Allen has broadened the program, adding more acts and interactive activities to create a drop‑in experience for residents.
The day opens at noon with a set from students of guitarist and music producer Patrick Zerlinski, followed by singer‑songwriter Justine Vandergrift. The Canadian country‑roots artist, who has toured in Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and the United States, also headlined the recent Found live‑music series in Cochrane. After Vandergrift, violin instructor Ivy Pan and her students take the stage for a brief showcase.
The drum recital itself begins at 3 p.m. and will feature 42 students, an increase from the 36 performers at the 2025 event. The drummers are accompanied by the professional band Northern Quarter, a Canmore‑based group that has performed with the students in previous years. Allen said the band has been supportive and that the collaboration will be a highlight of the day.
Beyond the performances, the event includes a “Music Mall” where local businesses, music organizations and community groups set up stalls. Participants include the Cochrane Music Society, saxophonist Amy Clayton, local schools and other arts‑related groups. The mall is intended to expose residents to the range of musical opportunities available in Cochrane.
Additional attractions are a music trivia contest, a disco dance‑off competition, prize giveaways and refreshments. A drum‑kit giveaway is scheduled for the event’s finale; attendees who enter the draw upon arrival will have the chance to win a kit to take home.
Admission is free and residents are welcome to attend any portion of the showcase. According to Allen, the event’s growth has been driven by increased participation from organizations, businesses and volunteers. He noted that “different groups are stepping up and getting involved, and that’s really heartwarming.”
The Cochrane Lions Legacy Centre has hosted the event for the past three years, and the venue’s schedule for the day includes the noon opening, the 3 p.m. drum recital, and the final drum‑kit giveaway.
The 2026 recital is the latest iteration of a community‑focused music event that has evolved from a simple student recital into a multi‑disciplinary showcase. The event’s format, which blends performances, exhibitions and interactive activities, reflects Allen’s goal of making the recital a real community event rather than a single‑session performance.
As of the announcement, the lineup has been confirmed and the event is open to the public. No further changes to the schedule have been reported.
The event will take place on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at the Cochrane Lions Legacy Centre, 109 5th Avenue, Cochrane, Alberta. Residents and visitors can attend from noon to 7 p.m. for free.
