What is a Boobam?
A Boobam is a percussion instrument consisting of a set of tuned tubes, typically made from bamboo or PVC, that produce deep, resonant tones when struck. It is known for its warm, hollow sound and melodic capabilities.
The instrument is made up of multiple tubes of varying lengths, each tuned to a specific pitch. These tubes are usually mounted on a frame or arranged in a row, similar to a keyboard layout.
A Boobam is played by striking the tubes with the hands or mallets, causing the air inside to resonate and produce a tone. The sound is rich and woody, often compared to a cross between a drum and a xylophone.
It can be used for both rhythmic patterns and melodic lines, making it versatile in ensemble and solo settings.
Today, the Boobam is used in contemporary percussion music, jazz, and experimental performances, valued for its unique tonal character and visually striking design.
